SNAP! Productions to mount Omaha Premiere of The Paris Letter In light of recent financial melt-downs and scandals, The Paris Letter is a propitious cautionary tale about a time-honored axiom–importance of being true to oneself. The play deals with Sandy Sonnenberg, a successful scion of Wall Street who has achieved great success in his family's New York City investment firm. Happily married to Katie and a doting step-father to her son Sam, Sandy is looking forward to retirement and the prospect of beginning his "third act." In flash back, the play chronicles the decades of repression that have lead Sandy to make terrible decisions with dire consequences for him and everyone he loves. Directed by M. Cabaret Theatre presents  Twenty Years of Cabaret
Twenty Years of Cabaret! Twenty years ago, four friends gathered to produce the Midwest premiere of a charming, off-Broadway musical called Closer Than Ever, a series of musical vignettes about the baby boomer generation. Starring Jerry Brabec, Camille Metoyer Moten, Rebecca Noble, and Paul Tranisi, the show ran for 11 weeks at the Regency Marriott, and Cabaret Theatre was born. Following the success of Closer Than Ever, in 1992 Cabaret Theatre introduced its first “girls” Christmas show, a tradition that has continued for most of the 20 years since. Beth Asbjörnson, Camille Metoyer Moten, Phyllis Noble, and Rebecca Noble have garnered an impressive reputation for sophisticated song stylings, an unmatched blend, and exceptional solo voices. Next came Thanks For The Memories featuring the music of WWII. Frank DeGeorge, Sue Perkins, Don Kalal, and Phyllis Noble traveled throughout the state of Nebraska and the Midwest, playing to standing room only crowds who enthusiastically rose to their feet at the conclusion of each performance. Jerry, Camille, Becky and Paul hit the road in 1995 with I Wish You Love, a revue featuring a wide range of songs from jazz standards to Broadway to the music of James Taylor and the Beatles. A new show, written in 2003, capitalized on the group’s love of vocal jazz and close, intricate harmonies. The Look of Love featured sophisticated 5-part harmonies by Keith Allerton, Beth Asbjörnson, Camille Metoyer Moten, Jerry Brabec, and Rebecca Noble. Since 1991, there have been 48 original musical revues, performances in 5 Midwestern states, and visits to 46 arts councils. The group has entertained at more than 300 events that include weddings, company parties, holiday celebrations, the Nebraska State Fair, the Nebraska Realtor’s Association, law firms, Nebraska Humane Society Galas, Aksarben Coronations, and the 50th anniversary of SAC.  Creighton Performing Arts presents  Gone the Rainbow, Return the Dove .
Gone the Rainbow, Return the Dove, an original play by Theatre faculty member, Michael McCandless, will present its collegiate premiere at Creighton, February 8-11, 2012, 7:30pm, and February 12, 2012, 2pm, in the Studio Theatre of the Lied Education Center for the Arts, 24th and Cass Streets. Tuesday, February 7 will be a TAG Night Out. Gone the Rainbow, Return the Dove presents Americans at war from a uniquely personal perspective. The title is derived from an 18th century Irish song about a woman who laments her lover going off to war, and her fears of never seeing him again. Based on original letters and diaries written to and from battle zones, the play dramatizes the lives of individuals from the American Revolution to present-day Afghanistan. The scenes are interwoven with tragic, poignant, intimate, and humorous portrayals of ordinary people caught up in armed human conflict. The letters, some authentic, some invented, are fragments of lives, of specific time. Interspersed throughout each era are dances and songs - a musical “Greek chorus” of sorts – songs, which have become part of our association with a particular era and wartime life. The purpose of the play is to present war, not on a grand, historical scale, but from the intimate reflections of those entangled in the web of armed tragedy. The play honors the resiliency of the individual. It is neither an angry anti-war protest, nor does it present a message thick with blind patriotism. With a cast of 16 college actors, the play covers 235 years of wartime America, with over 70 roles, and over 100 costume pieces. The cast includes the following Creighton Students: Kathleen Franco Michael Conroy Shannon Lampkin Austin Spillane Elizabeth Dagle Daniel Christensen Emma Rasmussen Josh Allen Mary Kate Lentino Matt Lincoln Elizabeth Mark Matthew Price Alli Derr Justin Edmonds Brynn Martin Abdullah Norain Written and directed: Michael McCandless Scene Design: Jake McCoy Costume Design: Lindsay Pape Lighting Design: Bill Van Deest Ticket prices: $10, general audience; $8, senior citizens; $5, students. Reservations: (402) 280-1448 or www.boxoffice.creighton.edu <http://www.boxoffice.creighton.edu> **** Please note: there is a brief scene in this play which contains language that may not be suitable for all audiences.
